KiZAN Team Members Volunteer to Help Local Healthy Food Initiative

KiZAN recognizes that the communities we work in are as important as the work we perform for our clients. Through the KiZAN Care’s initiative, KiZAN regularly “gives back” to our neighborhoods and actively encourages our employees to get involved. Whether we are sponsoring athletic events, packing lunches for children or volunteering at a non-profit organization, the spirit of gratefulness and serving others shines through.

In early 2017, Nathan Fornwalt, KiZAN’s Senior VP of Operations and IP, was introduced to New Roots, a Louisville-based non-profit.  New Roots works with fresh-food insecure communities to create sustainable systems for accessing  farm-fresh food.

Healthy Food Provider Outgrows Off-the-Shelf Technology

As a result of outgrowing its technology setup, New Roots was finding it difficult to accomplish its mission effectively. KiZAN team members decided to volunteer their time on nights and weekends to address many of New Roots technology issues.

Saturday morning hackathon to develop new online system

“I loved the idea of working with New Roots and thought it was a great way to give back to the community, while also getting some delicious, fresh vegetables.”

Justin is one several KiZAN members who have spent their Saturday mornings developing the framework for an efficient and improved online system.  The online system has streamlined numerous tasks which New Roots staff must currently process.

“It’s just an amazing feeling when someone examines all the many moving parts of getting veggies into the hands of our shareholders, has the passion for social justice to wants to help, AND the skills to make it happen. We are very lucky.”

Further expanding his commitment to the community, Jonathan Vanderford (Intellectual Property Consultant at KiZAN) has also recently been named to the Harvest Council at New Roots.

KiZAN is proud of the contributions made by our team members to support their local community!
