KiZAN Cares: Volunteers Grow New Roots in Local Community Food Mission

Written by Brad Watson | Nov 22, 2017 5:09:40 PM

KiZAN recognizes that the communities we work in are as important as the work we perform for our clients. Through the KiZAN Care’s initiative, KiZAN regularly “gives back” to our neighborhoods and actively encourages our employees to get involved. Whether we are sponsoring athletic events, packing lunches for children or volunteering at a non-profit organization, the spirit of gratefulness and serving others shines through.

In early 2017, Nathan Fornwalt, KiZAN’s Senior VP of Operations and IP, was introduced to New Roots, a Louisville-based non-profit.  New Roots works with fresh-food insecure communities to create sustainable systems for accessing  farm-fresh food.

As a result of outgrowing its technology setup, New Roots was finding it difficult to accomplish its mission effectively. KiZAN team members decided to volunteer their time on nights and weekends to address many of New Roots technology issues.

“It’s just an amazing feeling when someone examines all the many moving parts of getting veggies into the hands of our shareholders, has the passion for social justice to wants to help, AND the skills to make it happen. We are very lucky.”
