Is Your IT Infrastructure Increasingly More Complex? Control your productivity & manageability while keeping costs down! MDOP 2009 R2 for Windows 7 is now available The Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack (MDOP) is a dynamic desktop solution that is available as a subscription for Software Assurance customers. The solution suite enhances application deployment and compatibility, increases IT responsiveness and end user uptime, and helps reduce total cost of ownership (TCO) of your desktop software and IT management. MDOP employs six innovative technologies to increase desktop manageability, reduce TCO, and improve overall infrastructure satisfaction: - Microsoft Application Virtualization (App-V) turns applications into centrally managed services that are never installed, never conflict, and are streamed on demand to end users.
- Microsoft Enterprise Desktop Virtualization (MED-V) provides deployment and management of virtual PC images to enable key enterprise scenarios, primarily resolving application compatibility with a new version of Windows.
- Microsoft Advanced Group Policy Management (AGPM) enhances governance and control over Group Policy through robust change management, versioning, and role-based administration.
- Microsoft Asset Inventory Service (AIS) is a hosted service that collects software inventory data and translates it into actionable business intelligence.
- Microsoft Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset (DaRT) reduces downtime by accelerating troubleshooting, repair, and data recovery of unbootable Windows-based desktops.
- Microsoft System Center Desktop Error Monitoring (DEM) provides insights into application and operating system failures, allowing helpdesk to be more proactive in managing PC problems, without installing an agent to the endpoint.

Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 SP1 were released to manufacturing on the 9th, they will be available for download on the 16th to MSDN and TechNet users, with general availability on the 22nd of February. Let the downloading begin! Here’s the announcement for SP1: http://windowsteamblog.com/windows/b/business/archive/2011/02/09/windows-7-updates-deliver-more-bang-for-your-buck.aspx This brings two import features to Hyper-V, Dynamic Memory and RemoteFX. Dynamic Memory brings the Hyper-V memory management to a near par level with VMware, but it works in a completely different manor. We should be able to increase the VM Density at hosting by 25 – 40%. RemoteFX brings accelerated video to the VDI world and I think it exceeds VMware’s PCoIP and Citrix’s HDX from a speed perspective, however that does not come without cost in memory and network bandwidth. I don’t think you see remotely connection sessions making use of RemoteFX and each 1024x768 would eat 75 MB of video memory. For more information here’s s like to the changes: http://blogs.technet.com/b/virtualization/archive/2011/02/09/windows-7-and-windows-server-2008-r2-sp1-add-new-virtualization-innovations.aspx
